Crisp Apple Syrup, Drizzle, and Cold Foam | Way Better Than Another Starbucks Dupe

What started as wanting a homemade Crisp Apple Macchiato since Starbucks has turned their menu over to holiday drinks turned into a syrup, drizzle, a cold foam, and pack of apple sauce. Plus prevented wasting what was left of a bag of apples when my daughter says she loves apples and then eats one 🍎

I think we've all been there, right? We took the kids to an apple orchard this fall and they loved it, we came home with three bags of apples we had picked ourselves. My four-year-old ate apples every day and when the apples started pushing their freshness limit, we had homemade apple sauce. I didn't immediately buy more; kids love food and then don't like it at all. But I thought enough time had passed when she started asking for apples again. She ate a couple, my husband ate a couple, and then they sat. I was going to make some homemade sugar cookie syrup and mocha sauce to donate for a silent auction in my neighborhood this weekend so what better time to whip up some apple syrup too.

And as it turns out, there actually weren't as many apples as I thought there were by time you juice them. Which was fine, just wasn't enough syrup to make a proper bottle to add to my auction basket. My next thought was I could add half and half to the syrup to make a cold foam, so I did. And that filled the bottle, but the next problem is that isn't exactly shelf stable and if the basket winner already has two mason jars of syrup, they may not be able to use another bottle of cold foam since the flavors don't really complement each other. Unless you're a little over the top like I am. I've also decided that learning how to can will be my next adventure - if you have any tips or tricks let me know! Thanks for sticking in here with me, that was a long train of thought 💭

Ingredients

Crisp Apple Syrup

  • 1 large apple, peeled and sliced

  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup apple juice

  • 3/4 cup water

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Apple Drizzle

  • 2 cup apple juice

  • 2 TBL brown sugar

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Winter Apple Cold Foam

  • 1/8 cup Crisp Apple Syrup

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

  • 1/4 cup whole milk

Step 1: Start the Syrup

To a small pot add the sliced apple, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, apple juice and water. Bring to a boil.

Step 2: Simmer the Syrup

Let your syrup simmer for about 15 minutes then remove from heat.

Step 3: Start the Drizzle

To a medium pot add the apple juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil.

Step 4: Reduce the Drizzle

Drizzle should simmer until the apple juice has been reduced by half or more, which will leave you with 1/3 - 1/2 cup of syrup. This takes about 30 minutes.

Step 5: Bottle

Remove the apple slices from the syrup and set aside with a tsp of syrup to blend together for apple sauce.

Pour the syrup into a mason jar, and if you just want syrup then you can stop here and store in the fridge.

Let the drizzle cool completely before you pour into a squeeze bottle, it will have more of a caramel consistency.

Step 6: Make Coffee Cold Foam

Mix apple syrup, heavy cream, and milk (or half and half) together in a mason jar and whip until thick. Be sure to give it a good shake each time you use it, I had enough for 3 drinks.

Thinking about juicing your own apples? This is the juicer I use:

I also got these nicer-looking fluted mason jars for the auction basket, this is a 4-pack but they come in a 6-pack as well:

And that's it!

This adventure started with a macchiato in mind, and you can totally still do that. Add apple syrup to your mug, top with ice and milk, add espresso and top with drizzle. Or I ended up going a whole 'nother route with a Winter Apple White Russian. Follow me on Instagram and Facebook for more drink inspiration, thanks for reading! ❤️
