Do you have fruit going bad in the fridge? A little yogurt left? Let's make no-waste frozen yogurt with tips to make it your own! 🎉
2024 is going to be my year, my year to take control back of what I eat. Of what I serve my family. Little kids are hard, but easy at the same time. When I asked my daughter if she wanted ice cream, she's all in. She didn't care if it was "real" and I got bonus points when I made it pink. A sneaky way to get her some fruit, and make sure I'm not throwing anything out because it spoiled.
I had bananas and strawberries to use, a classic combination. You can use any fruit you want or leave it 'plain' using vanilla yogurt. You could simplify this even more and use a flavored yogurt. The point here is to be simple, choose a good yogurt and reuse the container. We use Greek for the extra protein. You can use any kind of milk you'd like as well - I use whole because that is what we have. There's a lot of 'this or that' in this recipe - honestly you can't go wrong so just have fun with it.
Ingredients
3/4 cup yogurt (I used vanilla Greek yogurt)
1/2 milk
For strawberry banana I used 1 banana and 3 strawberries
Step 1: Slice Fruit & Add to Yogurt Container
Use a large container, you'll need a little room for blending. This works perfect if you have a little bit of a large yogurt left over, mix right in there.
Step 2: Add Milk
Add whatever milk you prefer to your container.
Step 3: Blend Smooth
Use an emulsion blender if you are reusing your container, or you can add all your ingredients to a regular stand blender. It should look like a thicker milk, I blend mine completely smooth but feel free to leave some chunky fruit if you want bites in your fro-yo.
Step 4: Freeze
Put the lid back on and stick in the freeze - I've done this a couple ways. If you want your fro-yo faster, freeze in an ice cube tray. If you want to go as no-waste as possible, leave it all in your yogurt container. The big container takes me about 6 hours to freeze.
Step 5: Optional Re-Blend
Your fro-yo will be a little icy and crunchy straight from the freezer, if you like it like that, go for it. I like it smoother and closer to a soft-server consistency so I use the emulsion blender on it one more time.
Step 6: Optional Topping
Honey is excellence on top of strawberry banana, sprinkles are also a favorite.
