This batter can be used like caramel as the perfect thick syrup in coffee or cocktails when you are looking for spicy and sweet
Hot Buttered Rum is like a hot toddy and exactly what I was looking for last week when my throat was a little scratchy. And I ❤️ that I can use the batter for multiple drinks.

The ingredients are basic and easy to assemble, just hold on to that glass when you are whipping your butter stick (check out the reel at the bottom of the post - I'm still finding butter splatter in the kitchen 🤪).
As the name suggests, the standard is to add 2 tsp of batter to a spiced rum. You can switch it up to a plain dark rum or whiskey to be closer to a traditional hot toddy. The sugar will make the batter sweet enough but if you are looking for scratchy relief like I was, add some honey. And the best nonalcoholic edition is to add 2 tsp of batter to coffee with a little cream.
You'll make enough for a few drinks so save the extra in a mason jar in the fridge to scoop for your next drink. Add directly to hot coffee or other hot base for your drink.
Ingredients
3 Tbl maple syrup
2/3 cup sugar
1 stick of unsalted butter
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp cloves
1 tsp vanilla extract
Step 1: Warm Sugar & Butter
Add the maple syrup, sugar, and butter in a microwave safe bowl and heat for 1 minute.
Step 2: Add Spices and Vanilla
Whisk in cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and vanilla.
Step 3: Assemble the Drink
Add 2 tsp of batter to 2/3 cup of coffee (or hot water if that's what you prefer). Add 2oz of spiced rum if you so desire.
Step 4: Add Topper
Throw in a marshmallow topper or add some whipped cream to top it off 🫶🏼
