Simple Syrup is a great addition to sweeten any coffee or alcohol drink and also serves as a good base for other different flavored syrups
What is simple syrup? It's sugar water, usually a 1:1 ratio. Having sweetener in syrup form helps to ensure an even mix of sugar through the drink and can be particularly useful for cold drinks that won't effectively dissolve sugar. Let's avoid crunchy sugar settling at the bottom of the glass okay?
There are different variants of simple syrup that allow you to up sweetness playing with a 2:1 sugar to water ratio, or customize using sweeteners other than refined sugar. You can boil water to dissolve honey or agave and make them much easier to add to drinks. You can substitute raw sugar or artificial sugar as well or add herbs or spices to infuse the syrup with flavor. This recipe will make plenty of syrup to use for multiple rounds. I like to use a teaspoon of syrup for most drinks, like this easy 3-ingredient Amaretto Sour. Once bottled and cooled simple syrup will last about a month.
